Studio flash work shop
In this work shop we learnt, how to work the lights properly, studio etiquette and different types of lighting.
Studio etiquette
When in the studios there should be 4 lights, all in a row against the back wall, they should be left and found in this way to make working in the studios easier. Black curtains should be fasted around your work area as no to let light into someone else's shoot.
Types of light
Soft box – gives
out soft light
Diffuser – gives
out hard light
Umbrella – give
out soft light
Beauty dish – medium light
Working the lights
To work the
lights-
· Turn it on at the back
· Make sure lamp is turned on
· Adjust the f stop at the side of the light,
this will be the same f stop on the camera. It adjusts how much light is given
out.
· To change the type of diffuser/ soft box,
get one person to hold the light and another to twist it off.
Use an infer red
syncing device to connect the studio lights to the camera. You do this by –
· Plugging the large box into the back of the
light in the main power source and the head phone shaped slot
· Attaching a receiver to the top of the
camera
You can use a
light meter to detect how much light is coming out of the lamp, this will give
you an f stop and shutter speed to program into the camera.
You can also use a
light reflector to add additional light into a scene. A gold light reflector
will add a warmer tone to the image.
