Maps and journeys - Display Style

Originally we was planning on just painting the box white and mounting it on the wall using brackets how ever it was suggest that it was a bit too boring and we should find a way to subtly incorporate the after life into it some how.

I have been looking at memorials and church services that people have at funerals for inspiration on how we could display it.

the main things that have come up during this research are

  • tombstones
  • flowers
  • candles
  • photographs of the person
  • the phrase 'in memory of'
one of the main ways we are thinking of presenting it now is to  present it as if it was like a shrine or a memorial to a person.

we are planning to sit the box on a table ( or shelf ) and have a display of flowers around the base of it. We would then scatter some petals of the rest of the table along side some candles as well as have a small stack of business cards that kind of look like a plaque that you would have  the words in memory of on the front and a link to a post describing the piece on the back.  We would not come in and replace the flowers we would just leave them to die like most shrines do .

here is a rough drawing of what it would look like
