Beyond the boundaries - Inital ideas and group discusion.

Over the past 2 years on the course i have been noting down ideas and concepts of films i would like to develop but didn't seem right for the briefs we had as part of the university units we have had so far.  Once we finished lessons in april i suggest to lauren, thomas, shahid and lucy i would like to work in a group with them.

We had a group meeting where we all discused ideas we have had individually and job roles / tasks we would be interested in doing.

Lauren said that she wanted to focus on editing
Thomas said he was interested in visual effects
Shahid wanted to do the lighting and dop
lucy liked doing sound
and i wanted to produce this film but also like editing


As i had a lot of ideas to make them a bit clearer  i wrote down a short treatment for each one and gave them a rating  out of 10 on how interesting i thought they were and how do able in the time frame we had they were.   Here are some of the ideas i had -

Pulp - A story of a 20 year old trying to cope with changes in his life following themes from the band 'pulp'. The style of it would be grunge, romance, society, addiction, 90's and black comedy. It would be no more than 15 minitues long a 1 screen piece similar to trainspotting, filth, skins , rent and this is England.  The main outline of the story is ' jarvis grow up and a counicl esstate but never managed to escape it he covers up his sadness in a mix of drugs and alcohol, he mets a girl who continues to string him along by convincing him there in love. One day jarvis meets an old friend who he adored when he was younger, jarvis tries to clean up his act to impress her loosing most of his friends because of it, he eventually realies she is not the same person as she used to be and that no matter what he tried his life is never going to get better '

Hanging tree - 2 children run away from home and accidentally meet by a tree the story shows how there friendship grows and changes as they grow apart over time. Style - cute comign of age drama one shot

friend zone - showing the 2 sides of a friend zone and how words can be persived in different ways short 5 minitue online video

words matter - a distopian story about what the world would be like if we only had a limited number of words. 5 part youtube serise, similar to black mirror. the story follows 5 members of a family and there day to day lifes. the mother and the father are going through a rough patch but never talk about it but can be seen in body languge, the grandma has nearly run of words but listens to the daugther every night about her troubles, the son is an interent troll who wastes his words online but cant stand up for himself in real life as a result.


As a group we agreed we liked the pulp idea best  all though we cant use the music and stories from the band becuase of copy right we thought the concept that the bands sing about could me up and interested and twisted story. We brain stormed for a while where we come up with these ideas to develop the story,

• what happens in his head is different to real life 
• black comedy 
• steam punk surreal and timless style 
• dream like , freudien 
• drug based hillisations, different drugs make a different style 
• the guy should be lovable but thick 
• the girl should be fem fetal 
• noir like 
• about a girl who leeds him on through different hillusations and causes his life to mess up when they meet in real life she is not what she was like in his dream 
• monolouge and poetic
