During the maps and journeys briefing we were shown a powerpoint with some artists in, i thought i would look a bit more into some of the artist that i liked.
24 hour psycho - Douglas Gordan
This is a appropriation of alfred hitchcocks film psycho where douglas slowed down the original film to around 2 frames per seconds, in stead of 24, making the film last exactly 24 hours.
All thought i couldnt sit through a full 24 hours of this film i quite liked the concept of it as it allows the viewer to take in more of the film than they would at full speed, it allows them to look in-depth into things they would normally glance over, for instance things that are in the background.
Another one of douglas films that i came across was deja vu, i thought this was such a simple idea of putting 3 screens playing the same film but slightly out of sync with each other but i got the feeling of deja vu over really easily
he recently did an interview with vice explain how he creates his video installations, i thought it was interesting the way he came up with the ideas for his work and could be useful when creating my project.
tony oursler
Bound interpreter is the piece we were shown by him. I though this piece was very captivating as it was rather obscure and there were several elements to look at that i could sit and spend a while taking in each part.
tony oursler himself uses the film to create unique sculptural aesthetic, taking the images out of the television box and making them function in three-dimensional space. A recurrent theme in Oursler's work is the way in which visual technologies influence and even modify our social and psychological selves.
his work reminds me alot of the tv show ' noel fieldings luxury comedy' as they have a very similar surrealist style.

Jeremy deller
I liked the exhibition Jeremy created called joy in people, as it felt very interactive and fun to view. I like the addition of the cafe as it allows people not to just walk around and look at his work and then leave but gives the public a chance to talk about it and start a conversation.
It reminded me of the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. The top floor in the museum is about world culture and each countries section they had little cafes and houses that where styled how they would be in that country for people to sit in and watch videos.
This is an example of the indian section where the television in the corner was playing there news station.

chris milk
I enjoy chris milks work as it is very interective and fun for people to take part. He also uses alot of modern day technology in his work, such as web browsers, games concles etc I really like his style of work and will look into it more as i develop my project as i want to do something similar.
He created an interactive music video for arcade fire last year that uses google maps to track the veiwers location and put there city into the music video, i thought this was very unique and interesting as it alows the viewer to feel involved with the song. The video itself created in such an interesting way as it uses several google chrome windows to pop up and show different parts of the video at the correct time. http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/
Arcade fire have another interactive music video that i really enjoy which is about a magician and using your mouse you get to control how the magician moves his hands and what he dose, i think music videos like this are very better than a standard music video as the viewer gets to join in, which is a topic that interests me alot. http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/3rtXEW/:Z5WuI@r4:ePZtvhtP/www.beonlineb.com/click_around.html/
