i like the idea of using smartphones along side the film as it is something everyone uses on a daily baises and is a simple way to get the audience to feel involved.
the network is watching - this is an interactive video that was used to promote the tv series 'utopia'
The video is a very audience engaging piece as it get the viewer involved emotionally by creating a story revolving around them.
Creating this emotional involvent works well due to the nature of the show. As it is a thriller it is easy to instal a state of panic and fear through the use of glitch graphics and dialogue that is in the video. This teamed up with the viewer involved physically by imputing things like there picture, their facebook details and make decisions like whether they want to help the network or not creates an over all immersive piece.
I like the idea of geting the viewer immersed into the story and having a connection with it as i feel it takes them on more of a journey with it, than just sitting and watching a film.
youtube games - Youtube announced a feature a few years ago that aloud you to link to other videos in you own video, this started a crazy of people making interactive youtube videos/ games, for example saved by the bell by the fine brothers
things like this are also used in adverts on 4od where the viewer has 3 adverts to choose from and they get to click through to the ones they want, this alows the viewer to become more engaged in the advert as they feel they have to watch it as they choose which one to watch.
This is such a simple technique for getting audiences engaged in your films which dosent require much programming knowledge like i was looking into in my other research so could be a good technique for me to use in my project.
Instalation art by claire bishop - there was a quote in this book that i found interesting
' installation art differs therefor differs from traditional media in that it adressess the viewer directly as a litteral presence in the space .' ' installation art presupposes an embodied viewer whose scenes are heightened' (Bishop, C. (2005). Installation art. 1st ed. London: Tate.)
Maybe rather than creating an interactive hands on piece like i was planning, i could create more of an experience to engage the viewer , as this seems a more practical way with the skills i currently have.
