maps and journeys - Psycogeography Project

What is Psycogeography -

Psychogeography is an approach to geography that emphasizes playfulness and "drifting" around urban environment. Psychogeography is finding out how the environment you live in shapes the way you think. Becoming a psychogeographer is as easy as studying graffiti and poking your nose where it doesn't belong... The best way to do a bit of psychogeography is just to mosey around with no pre-planned expectations. This is called going on a derive, or urban drifting. Let yourself be delighted by something new! Get to know a place in a different way than you did before, and remember that difference. Discover something new about your area - try to find patterns where there aren't any. look out for graffiti, words on shop-signs and posters. Talk to local people, and take plenty of photos. (source

Another psycogeographic technique is to write a word on a map and follow the route it makes discovering hidden paths you may not have walked down before, this technique is the one leah has set us for our project, how ever as there arent many streets near me that will spell out any words ( see image bellow )  i am going to try a different approach
Nike +  is a an app used by runners, and it plots out where you have ran, recently people have been using this app to create funny pictures on there runs. ( source

I thought i would also use this app to take an unplanned walk for my project and try and make a funny drawing instead. Through out my video/photogrpahys for this task i will be referencing a lot of technology such a google maps, ipod, running apps as they play a big park in most people random walk/ psycogeographical travels nowerdays.
