Maps and Journeys - Simon Faithful research

Leah set us the task to research an artist out of a list of artist, i have selected  Simon Faithful

Simon Faithful

Simon Faithfull is a english contemporary artist whose work has been exhibited extensively around the world. His work aims to explore the planet as a sculptural object and test its limits. His work often builds teams of scientists, technicians and transmission experts to help him bring back a personal vision from the ends of the world. He was the first visual artist to receive an Arts Council England Fellowship to travel to Antarctica with the British Antarctic Survey. The journey began in November 2004 and lasted for two months. During this journey, Faithfull made daily drawings on a PalmPilot recording the daily events and sights of a journey ever further south. As with other drawing projects, these sketches were then relayed back to the world via email. In this case 3,000 people around the world received a live drawn message from end of the world.

In testing the limits of the plannet simon has made many forms of work in locations such as 10 meters beneath the surface of the sea, inside a burning plane and in the antarctic.
his work contains alot of pyscogrographical aspects for example

going nowhere 2
this video features a man aimless walking  on the bottom of the ocean exploring the depths of the sea, the video s quite tranquil and relaxing to watch as we see the man walk in and out of sight though the murky waters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGDGzXo2cjg

Orbital
This film shows 3 circular journeys on 3 motorways and creates a map defined by the gravitational pull of the center and offers a glimpse of the dizzying energy states that define the contemporary city.

limbo
this is a ap created to showcase his drawing in map form so you can zoom in to a place and see a drawing he created there. http://www.simonfaithfull.org/projects/limbo/

I really like simons work and want to use aspects from it when creating my psycographical project.
