Dance - A different approach

So we had a tutorial with vicky  and she suggested some things to us

  • why dose it have to be in a blue background, that makes it seem like we are just replicating the poem and the idea of it being user water. Why dont we just make it clear as water is clear.
  • to do it in silence , this will bring out the emotion of the dance more
  • to not base the camera around the dance but do the dance around the camera ( i had all ready started thinking about this but because i was ill and not at the tutorial i dont think this was got across )

As we are all ready quite worried becuase the progress of this film is moving more slowly than we hoped and its becoming quite complicated this feedback at first made us panic as we were worried despite all the work we are doing its not experimental enough.

How ever all week i have been saying that that i feel like we are missing something really obvious and simple that would just solve all the problems and worrys we are currently having, so i went back i listened to the poem again and something just hit me -

I agree with vicky it dosent have to be blue and look like its under water in that way, the only reason the water would need to be blue is if it was filmed in the day time, what if it was a night?

That way with how deep we want them to be the water we look pretty much black. This means we wouldnt have to use a green screen and do all the complicated after effects we could solve it all on set with lighting. It would also make the video look a little bit different and stand out more compared to other underwater videos.

if we shot it in a black room and put a light from behind with blue gells on top of it it would give the image of its late night  but also give it a bit of a blue tint so it dosent just look like we filmed in a black room. Also  a back light would give the dancers a kind of angelic glow as well as create some atmosphere to the film.  kind of like this image but with a diffused front light so you can see the dancers.

this means all we need to do in effects is make it slow mo, add dust and bubble, and change the colour on the dancers so they have less red tones.

Whilst i was listening back to the poem again the line ' if you turn up your speakers past the point of sound into deafening silence you will hear me again ' really stood out to me and i started to think

we was allways going to use ambient sound at the start then fade the music in once the dancers colides  but what if we but in a high pitch ringing in ( like the kind of noise you here when your under water and the pressure is to much )  and make this pitch get higher and louder  which wen combined with the disorientating camera movement will really emphasise the crash and the panic.

The when the dancers are just about to coloided the pitch could get that high it just fades out and you cant here it any more leaving the dancers in just silence for a few seconds before the music kicks in, this when teams up with a load of close up shots of the intamacy of them and slower camera movement will really capture the emotion.

I was also thinking during the close up shots i could get one from the side which when the dancer flips her hair it will be into the camera we could transition really well back into a wide of the same angle which we can then slowly pan around the dancers and as that happens the music can slowly pan it.

this wouldnt be a complicated thing to do but would defiantly add some more depth to the piece.
