Our idea
We want to create an immersive one on one installation piece biased around the the spiritual journey of the after life. Using sound, light and visuals we want to take the viewer on an emotional journey to what we have researched the after life to be like.
We will create a mask for the viewer to wear over there eyes, which we will attach a smart phone for them to watch the visuals on. We want to do this to fully immerse the viewer in the video so they do not get distracted by what is going on around the and can get a more realistic feeling from it. We thought the mask would be a better idea then building a space for the viewer to sit in as we do not have the space. How ever if we didn't create the mask we would want to create a coffin with a ipad for them to watch experience the video, this way they viewer would also get to feel the physical confinements not just the emotions we will be portraying through sounds and light.
We want to link it back to what Swedenborg said in his book heaven and hell on who a spirt that has died leaves into another world where they stay for a while before deciding weither they want to go to heaven or hell. We will allow the viewer to pick a journey they want to go on there will be 3 choices ' heaven' ' hell' and 'the spirt world' this way the viewer will be engaged even more into the experience.

If the viewer chooses hell we want to bais it on the research i did in greek mythology and follow the story that the person is punished on the crimes they committed. We want to make the visuals really surreal to creep the viewer out and make the sound really uncomfortable and hard to listen to, this will give them a scenes of fear like most people in my near death experience research said they had if they experienced a hell.
If the viewer wants to experience the spiritual world we want to use white lights that slowly fade in and out to black, this will over all be a calming experience as thats what most people described in my research. We might threw the odd shilloette of a person in as some people said they saw figures, how ever we want to focus mainly on the lights and the sound to create a calming effect. The sounds we will use will be binoral so we can create an all round feeling in the person. we will have really heavy bass tones so that the person can feel it vibrating through them as well as some kind of calming music and sounds.
If the viewer wants to experience heaven we will recreate a typical persons life to simulate the feeling of your life flashing before your eyes, the video and sound will over all give the viewer a really happy warm feeling.

As not to distress the viewer or hurt there eyes we will make our videos around 2 1/2 minutes long so there not surrounded by bright visuals and loud sound for too long.
Recommend that you make more simple. Loose hell, loose the coffin. Concentrate on sound and simple images to convey the possible feeling of a near death experience. Perhaps consider a feeling of joy, a calming experience as you suggest people have reported. Look at Bill Viola's video installation, particularly the one at Tate Modern now. Has the feeling of afterlife?
