All though we have decided not to film underwater any more after a few complications which i will mention in another post we did do a lot of research into it so i thought id write a post on it any way.
So we were worried that filming under water was going to need lots of risk assessments and be very complicated and hard so we went to tim savage to talk to him about it.
He gave us a special risk assessment form and said filming somewhere like farnham pool isn't as big of a risk as we thought it would be how ever we would need to look into a life guard and breathing equipment .
we looked around online for breathing equipment how ever it all looked really complicated and we wouldn't know how to use it. I found a place in woking that dose test dives where you get you put on all the equipment and go underwater for a while and learn how to use it.
This would mean that all we would need to do is rent our own equipment out, i found a place in surrey that rented wetsuits a breathing regulator and oxygen tanks out for £50 a day
molly and kat then rang round all the public swimming pools between here and a 30 mile radius to get price and quotes from them, we also tried private pools and school.
The only two to get back to us were farnham pool and surrey university
fanrham pool quoted us £80 an hour with life guard but we could only film on a Saturday
surrey pool rent theres out per lane at £20 per hour with life guard how ever had several question about us filming ( which were understandable ) which seemed very unlikely we could film in there.
because of this all though it would have been a fun experience it seemed unlikely that we would be able to film underwater.
Hi Laura - just to say that I am a qualified scuba instructor with all my own kit so if you did want to do something that had an underwater element at a weekend I would be happy to provide this for you at no cost. It is not feasible for you to rent kit yourself as no responsible facility would rent it to an unqualified person. Let me know if you are still interested. I have filmed underwater but the waterproof housing for a 5D or similar is costly - about £120 per day I think. Gopro's are waterproof but they have such a wide angle of view.
